Cabinet
From the 1740s the introduction of mahogany from the West
Indies and Central America became very popular, in particular
the flamed curl veneers. John Ellicott (1706-1772) produced
many clocks in this style, of which the ``Kensington''
is a typical example. The brreak-arch solid mahogany cabinet
features reeded quarter columns to the trunk and fluted
``Corinthian'' pillars to the hood. The dial features
the phases of the moon believed to be of benefit to seafarers
and farmers.
